Definitely the mac for many reasons.
1. Dont be fooled into the megahertz/gigahertz myth. Laptop companies have been advertising larger CPU’s for years that don’t provide much of a speed benefit. They rely on fiscally irresponsible customers who want more power whatever the cost. Laptops are designed with CPU scaling to conserve power. This means that most of the time you use your laptop, your not using the full amount of you CPU. Unless you pull out a game or do graphic design stuff, you will use far less CPU than you can imagine. So even though the Dell has 2.8 GHz, you wont notice much of a change in speed between the two when doing web browsing, powerpoint, and word. Also, most modern games dont require much more than 2 GHz, but if its games you want to play, then you probably wont want to go mac as there arent many games out there for mac.
2. The Dell may have more RAM, but its last generation DDR2 memory unlike the macbook pros DDR3 memory which is faster. If you want the 4 gig of ram, then i suggest you take the extra 100$ of difference between the mac and dell and spend it on more ram.
3. As for the hard drive size, I’d say the dell has the upper hand there. Even so, if you’re not going to put a lot of music and videos on the mac, 160 gig can go a long way. If you need more space, then do what every computer owner should do. By a backup hard drive and get lots of space.(By the way: never put movies on a laptop. If you dont compress it then it takes a ton of space and if it is compressed, it looks like shit. Just keep the DVD’s with you whenever you want to watch. Saves space and chances are you will only watch a movie once, so why waste space installing it on computer.)
4. I’m not gonna lie, the Dell has the mac beat with graphics. But graphics of that caliber are best suited for gaming, which is what a pc does. Unless you’re playing a game, the mac’s graphics are more than enough to handle most any task like video editing and graphic design.
5. The battery is where the mac shines. Since your getting a laptop, I’m assuming you will want something with a long battery life so you can stay productive for much longer, on the go. A standard 6 cell battery will last about 3 hours with regular use and can only be recharged 300 times before needing replaced. 300 charges is about 2 years. The mac’s battery lasts 7 hours with normal use, and can be recharged 1000 times before needing replaced. Apple rates the batter lifespan to be about 5 years. So while you’re on your second battery for the Dell(assuming the Dell lasts that long becasue they are a horrible PC) you will still be going strong with your mac battery. You can’t put a price on battery life, as being able to work longer on the go is a nice thing.
6. I’m not going to argue about which OS is better. Its a matter of preference. Fanboys on both sides will vehemently guard their OS. As for some of the above claims, they are total BS. You can’t compare two operating systems that haven’t even been released yet, and I dont care if you have used beta windows 7. Utter BS! I will tell you this though. Mac OS is built to run specifically on the hardware apple puts into it, which is why macs have a limited hardware choice. The plus side is, you get a much more stable machine. Windows is built to support thousands of hardware, and all of those drivers and compatability issues can really take its toll, which is why windows can be buggier and crash more often.
7. IF there is one big difference between a mac and a PC, its that EVERYONE who goes with a mac wants to go with a mac. They aren’t forced to. Its usually because they are sick of Windows BS.
Some people, NOT ALL, who go with PC’s, have no choice. Usually their companies have PCs or their schools require PCs. So some people are forced into the PC market. My point is, not everyone who is with PC wants to be with them, while every mac user wanted a mac.
It’s true what they say, once you go Mac, you never go back. lol
Dell Studio is better in every category.
I bought a Mac and fell in love with it!
the dell is, by far, the better laptop. it’s just a little more expensive, but it is worth it for much better hardware and OS.
Umm… That’s not even a comparison. Macs are expensive because they’re Macs.. Steve Jobs… Get over yourself.
Get the Dell now, and upgrade to Windows 7 when it’s released.. It owns OS X Leopard and the sorry excuse for an "upgrade" Snow Leopard.
the dell has the better specs for the price but if u want a reliable computer that NEVER slows down and just works the way u want it to then go with the mac
i have a macbook with a 2.00 GHz intel core 2 duo and a gaming desktop with a core 2 quad at 2.93 and the mac still beats it in speed
its not ALL about the hardware!
macbook pro, it is cheaper in every way, but it performs. my sister got a mbp yeaterday and she loves it. on a mac you dont have to spend on antivirus, repairs, and crap like that, macs can be summed up in one word: awesome.
Buy a mac you will never regret it!!!!!!!!!!!
