What’s a good way to clean a computer keyboard?
I’ve heard that you can actually wash them since the components are encased in waterproofed plastic but I’m not sure it that’s a myth or not.

Well it kind of depends on how far you want to go with it.
Do not put it in the dishwasher or submerge it in water!
You can pop off all the keys and wash them and clean the under key area as well.
Thats a little time consuming.
What i do is spray it out with compressed air. (if you dont have any compressed air just take it out side turn it upside down and bang it lightley and shake it all about. Then revel in the amount of crap that falls out) Then use Clorox wipes and go to town. If you dont have any wipes just spray it down with any light cleaner like windex and wipe down with a rag or Paper towell.
Or…
Buy a new keyboard.
Electronic wipes or a dry or damp cloth.
used the compressed cans of air. they come with a little straw attachment so you can get them into the small places of the keyboard…. and yes i said canned air
Electronic wipes or a dry or damp cloth. or dust off
A guy at work put his in the dishwasher, and surprisingly it doesnt work now :)
water can get inbetween keys and damage the circuits that connect the keys
best way to clean is a damp cloth and i use damp cotton buds to get inbetween the keys.
wet cloth, q tips, removing keys if you know how to replace and air can. i would not wet or submerge in water. never tried, but would not want to either.
it can be time consuming depending how dirty, but you can do inbetween shows during commercials or when listening to music.
or you can just get a new one and get one of those plastic covers that go over the keys which can be removed and washed and replaced.
Ya…no… lol in fact that would ruin your keyboard. I recommend a pressurized can of air, you can get them at computer and electronics stores. OR just pop out the keys and use a q-tip
I have used alcohol, Clorox wiipes, and I have sprayed Windex on a paper towel. They all worked! I always have the computer and keyboard off first. I give time for any moisture to evaporate.
pop out the caps and dust it out, then use a wipe to clean the caps.
With the computer OFF, I turn my keyboard upside down and rub it vigorously with Lysol disinfectant wipes. I do this weekly when I clean my computer desk. It takes a minute, and does a great job. Any dust or debris that may be stuck between keys fall out this way, and the wipes remove any dirt or germs from the keys themselves.
I agree with Ubuki. I turn my keyboard upside down too but rub it with a wet rag and any household cleaner I have on hand. It works really well…
compresed air and Computer cleaning wipes
