For all you comp gurus out there: What’s the best laptop for me, as I go on to med school?

here are the min requirements:
Core 2 Duo T7500, 14.1” WXGA, 2GB,80GB HDD (7200RPM),DVD RW,WLAN 802.11a/b/g, MS Vista Basic

I am wondering what comp you would get with my needs. I need something that’s
-quick at processing things, like websurfing and downloading,etc
-thin and light portability–so i can take to school when needed, but doesnt need to be ultraportable.
-lots of memory–we will have tons to store on our comps
-reliable and low-maintenance
-under 1000 dollars

Is it because their build quality is top notch?

And is it because that their laptops are designed to be rugged even though they are not advertised as rugged laptops?

Does it usually mean toshiba = durability?

I have read many forums in which users have problems like in dell studio line the optical drive hangs up, touch pad doesn’t respond, motherboard & Backlight not working etc.
Also in Sony Vaio hard disk problem, keypad doesn’t work, wifi etc.

ok so i currently own a Macbook, which i love by the way, but i also own a Toshiba Toughbook, and and IBM Thinkpad, which i also really enjoy. so im jsut trying to get other peoples opinions, so dont comment unless you have at least used both.

I read in my User’s Guide that my Toshiba Laptop currently has 1×512MB DDR2 SDRAM. I opened up the back of my computer to confirm that. I do have another empty slot. . . . . I found some RAM at Best Buy, and I was wondering if i could use this. Here is the site:

Hi there everyone. I just have a quick question…I’m looking to buy a Toshiba Notebook Computer seeing they are pretty reasonable and I’ve heard great reviews on them from friends and on some sites as well. I’m currently a sophomore in college and I plan on transferring to a 4 year university pretty soon. I just need a laptop that will allow me to surf the web, download music at a fairy high speed, type essays and listen to music as well as instant message and all that good stuff that comes with being a college student :p I want to be able to do all these possibly at the same time without having my computer lagging because I’m the most impatient person out there. The laptop should be reasonable as well when it comes to price.

I’m getting confused with all of the different processors..I have no idea what the differences are. If you could please let me know what you feel would work with my current situation I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
oh and one more thing, a laptop with a lot of memory space would be great seeing i have a ton of digital camera pictures and i love saving all of them…even the ugly looking ones

The laptop I have, the Toshiba Satellite, SUCKS!
There’s sooo many maintenance issues with this thing, namely the AC adapters never seem to bring power into this thing!

What’s a good kind of laptop to buy?
The HPs seem kinda big and bulky…

I would like to purchase a laptop, I was told that toshiba makes a durable laptop. A friend is in the army and says alot of the guys take a toshiba laptop to afganistan with them. This is the type of use it would have if I buy one. Any info on good, durable laptaops under say 00 would be great. Thanks

I need to use my TOSHIBA Satellite A40 laptop for extensive academic and other works (like movie, music, internet). I use it like desktop – always from line power, no mobility and it is turned on almost 12 hrs everyday. Is that OK? I am worried if I am over-using it– keeping it on long hours and doing so many things. Is it true that unlike desktop which is more rugged I should use my laptop more ’softly’, more carefully,…. Should I use less hours per day? Do you have any tips or adivice for me who needs to use computers about 8-10 hours a day.

I have a Toshiba A65-s126 that I've torn apart to change out the Bios/ Cmos? RTC backup batteries; but now can't find any to change. I'm wondering if the bios takes power right from the large main power battery.
Toshiba doesn't have manuals or info they will release to the public.
