I just bought a new 160GB hard drive for my dell inspiron 9300 notebook, and when I boot it wont read the HD.?
I just bught a new 160GB hard drive for my dell inspiron 9300 notebook, and it will not read the new hard drive. I followed the guide on how to install it, and when I boot it says there is a HDD error. I booted from my windows xp media center cd after this, and it said it could not detect a hard drive that was installed, and it cancelled installation. Can someone please tell me possible errors as to why it is not reading my hard drive?
It is a seagate brand hard drive, and it is FOR A NOTEBOOK, there are no jumpers on it for master/slave, and as it is a dell inspiron 9300 all I do is screw it into a case and plug it in

sounds like a SATA drive perhaps. They have no jumpers. The drive should have come with an install disk. If windows cannot detect any hard drives, than you may need to press F6 when asked and install the SATA drivers that should have come with the drive. (if in fact it is a SATA drive.) Or, it needs to formatted and partitioned first. But windows should have said that during the install. The key here is that Windows CD did not "detect" any HD’s. This would indicate SATA or non Formatted HD.
HI GUY,
CHECK THE HDD CABLE BESIDE THE JUMPER.
