Could I get my laptop to connect to a wireless access point and ‘’steam” the connection through a Ethernet cable to another computer?
I don’t have a wifi card on my desktop but I need to access to Internet for maintenance.
I’ve had this problem before on my laptop and I still don’t understand it. I would click on a video and there is a complete black screen. The video I selected doesn’t buffer or play. Is/Has anyone having/had the same problem? Did you understand what was going on? YouTube isn’t undergoing maintenance right now so what could be wrong?
Hi I wanted to sell my laptop pentium III laptop and it has not battery with it can I get anything for it Here is the specs for it thanks Jan

I need a recommendation for a great system maintenance program for my laptop. something that would come with a registry cleaner, incinerator(passes over the files multiple times), defragmentation, a system memory cleaner, ect. Or maybe a bunch of free cleaners that could help?
Thanks in advance!
I’m interested in buying a refurbished laptop. The sites tell me that they come with 30 day warranties which is fine. However, does anyone know if you are allowed to buy a manufacturer’s extended warranty (2,3,4, accidental, maintenance type extended services)?
Or are you only limited to the 30 day whatever online store you bought it from?
Standard issue cleaning procedure seems to have gone wrong; I’ll express what I did, what the problem is, and all investigations after the discovery of the problem:
[ What was done ] :: The keyboard was set in a baking pan of isoprophyl alcohol for about 15 mins. with occasional swishing and then dried overnight in order to clean the board out as per regular maintenance.
[ The Problem ] :: The "Left" key continuously fires off preventing any other key entry from being registered by the board.
[ Attempted Fixes ]
1. The general uninstall/reinstall drivers and devices.
2. Alleviation of pressure on the left key by removing all top layers and plugging the keyboard back into the ZIF connector in concern that it was a simple membrane issue.
3. A full cleaning of the entire keyboard, removing all keys, holders, and the button layers followed by another day’s drying. The thing is spotless and there is nothing to press on the membrane.
4. Virus scan with Avast / Avg, nothing came up.
I’m sure I couldn’t have covered everything. I know it’s the left key is being depressed because I used a computer program called KeyBoard Test, gotten from their official website, and while I’m concerned it’s a short I don’t know how to test for that.
Suggestions more than welcome!

When I start up my laptop there is a little under score line that blinks then a blue screen comes up. In the blue screen there is a number of things i can click on such as "system, onboard devices, video, security, power management, maintenance, POST behavior and Wireless" I can only use the scroll keys and enter. I have no idea what is going on. What do i do? I do not have a system recovery disk.
i ran a test on it and it is say ing that there is no hadr drive detected. what does that mean and what do i do now? is my laptop basically no good now?
I’d like a new laptop. The one I have now is a Toshiba Equium A210-17i (retro, huh?) and there are a couple of things wrong with it, but I’ll get to that after going through the specs..
14" Screen (ish?).
2GB RAM.
Windows XP Home Edition w/ Dual Core Processor.
160GB HDD.
x3 USB Ports, Wireless, DVD and Floppy drives.
Admittedly there are a couple of nuisances about it. It needs a new battery and therefore will only work if it’s plugged into the power cable, and the keyboard needs a little bit of work – just a case of getting some new keys fitted as these are wearing now. I’ve had this laptop for at least 4 years, and it’s in otherwise good condition. It’s very reliable and I’ll be sad to see it go, tbh!
There is also some visible wear and tear from over the years. A couple of MINOR scratches, but the real problems would be the shiny keys (from all my typing!) and some of the silver paint has worn away on the left mouse clicker and a patch at the right hand side. The patches are white.
Obviously I’m not expecting alot for it, but I was just curious as to how much I might get if I sell it because, seeing as though it’s still in perfect working condition dispite some cosmetic maintenance, it seems like such a waste to throw it away!
Thank you :)

The first and second Internet Explorer pages load very quickly. But clicking a link in a loaded page or entering a new address on a loaded page will take several minutes to load and sometimes I get "This page cannot be displayed." This problem just started a few weeks ago on a three year old wireless Dell laptop. The wireless utility says the connection is very good at 1 Mbps.
I took the laptop to a Wi-Fi coffee shop, I had no problems, and IE ran very fast. The wireless utility said the connection was excellent at 1 Mbps.
I have a desktop that is hard-wired to the same wireless router at home with no problems. The utility says connected at 100 Mbps.
After eight hours of fee based tech support I am still having this problem. I’ve done all the "anti" scans and maintenance scans under the sun to no resolution.
Let me know If more details are needed. Thanks for your help.
Thanks isl247
I have a Netgear wireless router. Its set at channel 11, mode g and b, WEP-auto-64 bit.
I just recently bought a new Compaq laptop computer after having a huge desktop HP for over 5 years. Just wondering what weekly or monthly maintenance things I need to be doing?
I already know about deleting internet temporary files through the "internet options" on the control panel
Anything else I need to do?
I remember on my old computer how I would go in every month or so and "defrag" computer…..How do I do that on this laptop…..or is it needed?
I have bought McAfee computer protection……does that program do any maint type stuff to clean off junk?
Anything else I need to know? I’m not a computer tech type person, so please explain in simple terms.
Thanks,
Robin
My cousin’s laptop is crappy and want to fix it for her; however, every time I run a program, or try to open a file that I’ve downloaded, it inconveniently opens iTunes instead. Additionally, I try to open system maintenance, and it redirects to iTunes. I don’t want to uninstall iTunes or boot the computer. Help, please!
Previously, my cousin used her laptop and iTunes for her iPhone. Every time I open a file or program, the laptop immediately opens iTunes instead. I can’t access anything properly besides the web browser.
my laptop had a problem in the cooling system where i think the fan wasn’t working right and my computer used to freeze and hang up.
and i’am sure 100% it’s not because any of software problems like errors and viruses where i have reinstalled the windows and i checked my computer for viruses with different softwares and it still hanged up…………
after getting it into maintenance and fixing it up by non experts, my laptop now becomes hot (i sometimes smell smoke) but it never freezes and the fan now doesn’t work at all but the computer goes on without freezing…
does the fan have a heat sensor or something?
i’am afraid someone removed the sensors so the laptop keeps heating without any response with the windows
i’am afraid the processor may burn suddenly without any warnings…
any suggestions………………
how about the external usb cooling fans, are they good???
i want the good speed with low maintenance charges and unlimited download.
like reliance speed is very nice but is very costly charges around 3000 per month.and no unlimited tata photon also similar..
suggest which is the good network which charges less than or around 700 and fulfill the requirements…..
what about airtel idea and tata whiz?
It’s livejournal. And anything that has to do with it (communities, personal journals, icons being hosted by livejournal etc.)
The thing is, it loads really, REALLY slowly on my laptop. It’s either I get frustrated and stop loading it altogether, or wait for it (usually takes around five minutes to load the sign in page), and then be greeted by what looks like a half-loaded site (broken html format, images not showing up, all text in Times New Roman).
Here are the other circumstances:
1.) Already tried to access livejournal in different browsers (IE, FF, and Chrome to be exact) in my laptop, and all loaded Livejournal very slowly.
2.) I tried to access livejournal using the same connection (at home, which is the one I’m using right now) through my ipod and desktop, and livejournal loaded there just fine. Mind you, my connection is pretty fast.
3.) I tried to access livejournal using a different connection, and livejournal loaded properly.
4.) Tried turning off utorrent (the only thing that I could think of that could be slowing down my connection – which, to be honest, has yet to occur before) and loading livejournal, still nothing. Other sites still work, regardless of utorrent running or not.
I’ve already tried the following solutions, to no avail:
1.) clear my cache/cookies/history for ALL of my browsers.
2.) used /flushdns
3.) check if livejournal is undergoing maintenance (and no, they are not).
Other sites are working as they should, without showing signs of slowing down. It’s just Livejournal specifically that’s wounding up wrong.
Oddly enough, there are random (short) moments where livejournal would just load fine. And then I click on another page (comments), and it’s back to loading really slowly again.
I don’t know what to do anymore :(
I’m in need of a new laptop and it has to have the horsepower to last for at least 5-6 years. My Dell Inspiron 9300 is going on 5.5 years and the screen is just beginning to get those annoying lines on it.I only had to replace the HDD at 3 yrs and a couple of replacement batteries. Expected maintenance…
Unless convinced otherwise, it will probably be a Dell again. HP has been a headache when i used to work at a University help Desk. I’ve heard good things about ASUS but don’t see a lot of warranty on them. But I’m open to suggestions, if supported by fact.
I prefer Intel and am looking at either the I5 or I7 chipset. The I7’s are still pushing a 15" machine over 00.
Config: 15", 4+gb RAM at 1033+, 500gb 7200rpm, 720p+ screen, 512mb NVidia, 802.11n, backlit keyboard for taking notes in dark classrooms, blue tooth, 8hr battery (9 cell for dell))
I need to stick with 15" as weight is an issue.
It should be a decent multimedia machine that can serve all around purposes. Not looking for gaming performance.
Is the I7 worth waiting for? Performance and cost wise over the I3 or I5 or say a P7450 or P8700. What is on the horizon that may drive CPU prices down?
Recommendations? Reputation of mfgr, price vs performance are key points.
My girlfriend says wants me to buy her a laptop, iPhone, and pet for Christmas. She got upset when I said I wouldn’t get her a pet, because my place is too small and I already have 2 pets.
She also lives with me and doesn’t pay for rent, utilities, or food (except once in a while). I do 90% of the cleaning, and when we go to work, we use my car and she never pays for gas.
She also wants me to get her things often, and if I don’t she pouts and tries a guilt trip, so I usually end up getting it for her.
She’s an overall nice person though, but she says she is a poor med student, and can’t afford to pay for those things now.
Is this a normal relationship, or is she high maintenance?
for windows vista, i think you need 2.0 GHz P4 or something,
it says on my control panel > system and maintenance > system:
Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T1600 @ 1.66GHz 1.66 GHz
i don’t really understand much of this, but basically i can tell i don’t have enough GHz, and is there any way of getting more without buying a new laptop?
p.s, i know i definitely have enough memory space.
p.p.s, my laptop is a toshiba, satellite
I’ve had this laptop about a year now, it’s spent a lot of time on a bed which means the air-intakes are sucking air up from through my matress, and hence there might be a lot of crap in there. Does anyone know the best way of cleaning it up?
I’ve never cleaned it before, so advice on giving it a proper spring clean inside, and out (i.e. internal circuit boards/fans and under the keys o the keyboard) would be gratefully appreciated. I don’t really mind about voiding any warranties, putting the laptop at risk, so please don’t suggest I take it to a professional, but if you do offer risky advice, please state that somewhere in your response :).
Also links to maintenance manuals or anything would be cool too..I would like to know how to safely get at the innards and know how to get it all back together when I’ve finished.
Cheers All
Can someone give me tips on caring for my laptop? It frequently feels hot to the touch (even if I have not been using it all that long) and sometimes makes high-pitched squealing noises if I touch a certain point (but only sometimes). The CD-DVD drive will only open unless I use the "eject" command on My Computer, and it recently has stopped reading discs.
I don’t have money for computer repair, but I would like to keep my computer functional for as long as possible (and obviously I understand very little about computer maintenance… one of those silly university students). From my description, does it sound like it will die/crash/spontaneously combust in the near future?
I’m trying to play runescape on my new laptop but when I choose a world it gives an error page, it says error: website may be under maintenance. It gives the option to refresh but just goes back to the same page. But my bro is online on RS on the family computer upstairs. Any suggestions or help? Please

Also, some people have answered the dual account login on same IP address may be the problem, but I tried to login while he was offline and it still didnt work for me. It was working fine this morning.
My old HP desktop crashed. I had made a cd with pictures. When I try to load the pictures onto my laptop something goes wrong. I can open the drive and see the pictures, but when I try to copy them onto my computer, the computer automatically goes to "End Program". I know it’s not the computer and not the cd because I have the exact same problem when I try to load a cd with pictures which I had gotten at WalMart. It’s the very same problem, I can open the drive, see the pictures but when I try to load the pictures it automatically goes to "End Program". Since I have Windows Media Player 10 and tons of music was I wondering if I had to change a setting there. As far as I can recall did I have Sonic on the old desktop and do have Sonic on this laptop—I really would appreciate some good advice on how to fix this. I do not want to guy another music/video software, I just want to fix this one.
No problems loading/listening to music cds. I use a utility software 4 maintenance.
