He’s being flown directly from BCT to OCS and will not have any civilian clothes, a laptop or a car. How can he get these items if he’s being flown straight to OCS?

Is it true that laptops are always slower and less responsive than a comparable desktop with the same amount of memory and graphics? I have a 6 month old HP Pavilion laptop ZV6233nr with an "AMD athlon 64 processor, (2.0 GHz, 512kb 1.2 cache) 100 gig hard drive with DVD + R/RW and CD-RW combo drive with double layer support". It also says something about ATI 200 series video driver. My husband plays "military games" with helicopters/airplanes, and also racing games. Should this computer be ok for this? If not, who makes a good system for game play?

I have a military laptop and they have disabled my wifi capabilities so i have to plug my laptop directly in to a router or modem. But i need to access the internet around my house. I have a old router in the garage can i connect the to routers wirelessly so that i can plug my Ethernet cable into either of them.

my boyfriend is a huge red sox fan, but is going to be deployed to kuwait for the entire season. i was wondering if i purchased an MLB tv subscription for him, if he’d be able to watch the games. i know his base has wireless internet and he has a laptop, but i know sometimes sites are blocked in certain places. anyone have any clue?

Will they still be able to access it? are they able to take their own computers/laptops to players like Australia and Okinawa? my cousin was extended 5 months in Japan until february ‘08 and he regularly uses myspace to keep in touch. I know they can’t take them to Iraq and Afghanistan but are they allowed to other deployments that are not war zones? thanks for any help

I’m looking for some advice from other Military families who have children that go to on public schools (preferably the ones that are actually on installations) who’ve had issues with threats or violence against their child.

My 12 year old daughter was recently threatened by another child (we will call him JJ) in her class. This happened on Friday and she hold us as soon as she got home. The kids ride the bus home and by the time they get here the school is long closed up and no one will answer the phones so we had to wait till Monday to deal with the situation not by any choice of our own.

Here is what happened…..Friday at school They where in class on the laptops, and my daughter had her legs to the side so she wouldn’t hit another child sitting next to her. JJ walked up and told my daughter to "shut up and to move her feet". Colleen told him "No, that she didn’t have to and that it was a free country." Well JJ then proceeded to tell her that "If it’s a free country I’m going to shoot you" Colleen ended the exchange then and told the vice principle who said he would have a discussion with the student.

Well this discussion must not have done much good because the kid was in our housing area (which he does NOT live in) the next day bragging about how he’s gotten away with it and that nothing was done to him. He even made further comments to her about how it was a compliment and that she took it wrong.

Now, a few things here… he was at another persons house when the second incident happened. My daughter left right away and came home, she didn’t even want to go to school on Monday. She is very uncomfortable around him and is actually afraid of him now. She did NOT feel this was prior to last week.

My husband and I went to the school and spoke with the principle and vice principle. Unfortunately, it was basically a waste of our time. All we got was the whole we don’t think he knew what he was saying and doesn’t have the capacity to really carry it out lines. They kept saying he said Well then I could shoot you and that is NOT what he said but that is what he told them he said so they are basically believing him over 5 other students. They also said that they child has a history of saying and doing things before fully thinking them through which is the part that terrifies us. They kept going around and around about how the child is emotional and young for his age.

They hasn’t even contacted his parents about him saying it and that made my husband go through the roof. They where supposedly going to contact them yesterday after we left but to be honest I doubt that it really did happen. They talked about that he’s an very emotional child well so is mine but it sounds like this kid is just playing them especially since he came to our housing area the next day dragging that he got away with it. We have our daughters side of things and have also confirmed it with all the children she says witnessed it happen. They all give the exact same story so this isn’t my daughter being overly dramatic about the situation.

Does anyone have any ideas as to who to contact besides the school board (who’s going to side with the principle) to get this dealt with? I know that if the kid comes to our housing area again and says anything like a threat to her to call the MP’s but I don’t want it to come to that. I’m more concerned that he could or would walk into the school with a gun. Then it’s not only our child in danger but other people’s children too. I will be contacting the Military liaison for assistance and hopefully she can do something.

I’m not usually one for getting commands involved but is that going to be my only option to resolve this if the school won’t do something? Is to find out who this kids sponsor is and have my husbands command go to his command? Seems like a lot of go around the bush to me but if it works I’m willing to do it I just want the kid to realize that you can’t threaten people like that and get away with it.

The really bad part is my daughter isn’t doesn’t want to do to school now. Any advice would be great and please no tell her to suck it up. She’s got two brothers and can handle her own quite well thank you but this really scared her. She’s never had something threaten her life before and she never have someone do that especially at 12 years old.

My daughter did NOTHING wrong to this child. She was no rude to him and did move but wasn’t going to be told to shut up when she wasn’t even talking.

To answer some of the questions aske dno it’s isn’t a DoD school It’s a El Paso ISD School that just happens to have it’s campus on post. There are a few DoDea schools in CONUS (Knox for example).

We don’t know the parents and the school refused to release their names or phone numbers so we can contact them to address the situation. From what I know as of today they still have not been contacted and told about what has happened.

When can you own property in the military? I’m trying to decide whether to sell my ps3/laptop/etc (which would be at a significant $$ loss to me) or have my parents hang on to them expecting I’ll be able to own property sooner or later? Is it after MOS school or much later? I was watching a documentary and saw infintry on laptops and playing video games with each other in Iraq … so I assume it is possible to own property?
oh I just remembered to mention, aslo my car. I would either sell it or have it stored depending on the answer

I have laptop that isn’t too old but old enough. I would keep it but I’m going into the military so I don’t particularly need it. What should I do?

i am due for taking my asvab test tommorow for the us army. on practice tests i scored a 32 the first time on the recruiter’s laptop and and than i took another practice test on 4tests.com and clicked on military exams and scored a 35.6. anyone have ideas on how i can definately pass the test tommorow???

i really need to pass it this time because i want to get deployed already and i have been trying to join for a long time now..

My husband is currently deployed to Iraq and having some problems. He fell asleep while on guard duty (i know it wasnt the smartest thing) but now his Sgt wants to take away his laptop, xbox, and his T.V. These things are his only comforts from home. Plus they already solved the problem by making him stand during guard duty, and he hasnt fallen asleep since. I was wondering if anybody knows if they can legally take his personal belongings or if I need to call a lawyer. Thanks for the help.

As you can probably tell by the wording of my question I have no idea what I’m talking about! LOL I have a laptop that I purchased for school reasons this past year, however since then I have graduated and really dont have much use for it anymore. My husband is in the military and we decided that he should take the laptop on tours with him. Well he wants to be able to play games on it, etc. He can play some games but other games he can not. I was wondering if i could some how upgrade the laptop to make it capiable of playing all the games? Is there something that I can replace in the computer to make it work? Please help me. He is leaving for his 3rd combat tour very soon and I would like to have it done before he leaves if it’s even possible. Thanks.

I ordered this expensive laptop from Dell, I’m really excited and can’t wait to get it. I live in Okinawa Japan on a military base. Usually items shipped out USPS Priority take about a week and a half. Items sent parcel post can take up to 45. (I just got a cell phone I ordered 45 days ago sent parcel) Has anyone living in an APO/FPO address ever ordered a Dell and how long did it take to get there?

I have an Acer laptop. My husband is deployed. The military has an website for you to do IM with your spouse yet on my Acer laptop it won’t log in to the site. it keep saying Certificate Error. It says that I have an unsure certificate. The tech people at the acer sight said that they can’t help me from the stand point a third party. Can anyone help me????

My husband is military and uses his laptop for work and his school attendance. I want a degree in Web Design/Development so, a cheap computer will only do for the short term. I need a technology package so that I can get the computer/laptop with the system requirements capable of supporting all of the software needed for the life of my schooling. Everyone keeps saying that a basic computer will work but I have seen the list of courses offered at some schools and a basic computer will run too slow with just one of these programs. Could someone offer some advice as to a college (online) that offers this? Please don’t tell me about Dell. You have to be the Pope to get credit from them.

I’ve heard there are places where soldiers can get free computers to take to IRAQ and that you can get free plane tickets and such. Does anyone know where I need to be looking because I cannot find anything ! We are really short on money and I know my husband could use a laptop to take with him so he can communicate with his family!
