Can i just drag the folder ‘itunes’ to my portable drive and then put it onto my laptop or will that mess it up?
That would be a LOT of cds.
Is there an easier way? I have close to a thousand songs, and what do i do about my aps and my podcasts?

Just purchased a Dell Studio 15 for college. (Freshman, going to be Intl Affairs major)

Now, I need to know how to make it last all five years of college (going to Northeastern with the 5-year co-op program). I’m an Intl Affairs major (potentially) and will be using the laptop for iTunes (musc + movies), Microsoft Word, Internet, and maybe Sims 3.

I have learned a bit about laptop care from the mistakes we’ve made with family laptops over the years. I now know that leaving a laptop plugged in all the time is the worst thing you can do to a battery and holding a laptop by the screen portion and not the base (when it’s fully opened) will indeed loosen and break the hinges.

I am just looking for any advice on how to get the most out of it. Even if something is totally "common sense," you should probably still tell me

And a few ?s:

-How do I get the most out of my battery? It’s a 9 cell, just fyi. I heard somewhere that you should let the battery completely lose its charge ~once a month. I just don’t want to have issues with the battery/overheating or anything.

-I know I should always use it on a hard surface, so I will make my best effort to always use it at a desk. But will a lap desk also suffice?

-Any special ways to clean the monitor?

Any and all advice is appreciated!
I am well familiar with Google ;)
Just looking for anything that someone might not think of, perhaps.
Thanks for the well wishes! =]

By best, I mean user friendly, dependable, low maintenance. I guess I am probably going to go with Windows. I’m hoping for a knowledgeable opinion, not just fan boy stuff.

When can you own property in the military? I’m trying to decide whether to sell my ps3/laptop/etc (which would be at a significant $$ loss to me) or have my parents hang on to them expecting I’ll be able to own property sooner or later? Is it after MOS school or much later? I was watching a documentary and saw infintry on laptops and playing video games with each other in Iraq … so I assume it is possible to own property?
oh I just remembered to mention, aslo my car. I would either sell it or have it stored depending on the answer

My toughbook did not come with a hard drive. In searching for one I find lot’s of hits but Im not sure if they are going to be compatable with it.
I’ve seen Western digital has some for under 100.00 ide, 9.5mm 20GB(that’s all i need anyways)
But Im not sure if these are compatible. I went to Panasonic and they want over 450 dollars for an 80 GB!!
I’d hate to have this laptop and not use it ever b/c I can’t do 450.00!
Thanks for any input.

I have a small portable DVD player, but when I’m home, I like to use it to watch my movies in my room, but I just want to know (if possible), what wires/adapters I would have to use to run it through a standard computer screen. (VGA output) Any suggestion appreciated. :D Cheers

For overall, is it better to install a software to your computer or using a portable version?
Performance-wise, is it better to run an application when its installed into your computer or have it run through an exe (portable)?

I have laptop that isn’t too old but old enough. I would keep it but I’m going into the military so I don’t particularly need it. What should I do?

If you load something on a portable hard drive and then delete the same file on your computer, will the portable hard drive still keep the file the next time you synchronize it with the computer?

Ok.. so a year ago I had my laptop maintenance and after I got it back, my number 5 on my keyboard quit working along with the letter ‘r’.. I shortly after bought a Mac and have not used my Dell since.. Here is the question.. I want to login to my Dell laptop computer now to use the Microsoft word, but the number 5 is in my password, and login as guest limits my ability to download a keyboard program.. Also my ‘delete’ button does not seem to be responding either..

How can I bypass my login password.. the ‘fn’ , ‘5′, and ‘delete’ buttons are not responding.. any advice.. PLEASE!??
I have purchased a keyboard to use on my dell, but I cannot download the software to use the keyboard.
